
A segregated train ride is only the beginning. In 1943 Sara and Ben Jameson moved their young family from the South side of Chicago to Berkeley, California. It was their dream to leave behind segregated housing, substandard schools and limited employment opportunities. Little did they know all of that would be waiting for them in South Berkeley, the only part of town where people of color were allowed to rent or own homes. While every silver lining has a cloud, the Jameson family found a home in a welcoming all Black neighborhood where for decades they overcame obstacles and had opportunities they could have only dreamed of.
